How does image compression work?
For JPG and WebP, the tool re-encodes the image at the quality level you choose. A quality of 70-80 is a good balance: the file gets much smaller and details stay sharp.
For PNG, the tool reduces the number of colors in the palette (quantization), the same way TinyPNG does. This usually cuts 50-70% of the size and keeps transparency.
If the original is already optimized and the compressed version is not smaller, the tool keeps the original so you do not lose quality for nothing.
Which quality level should I choose?
| Use | Quality | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Product photos, cover images | 80-85 | Keeps fine detail |
| Images in blog posts | 70-80 | Best balance |
| Thumbnails, small images | 60-70 | Smallest files |
Frequently asked questions
Does compression reduce image quality?
Lossy compression removes detail the human eye can hardly notice. At a quality of 70-80, most viewers see no difference.
Why is my PNG still large after compression?
Real-world photos saved as PNG are usually very heavy. Convert them to JPG or WebP to reduce the size far more effectively.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens in your browser. Your photos never leave your device, even when you process hundreds of files.
